background info
The Centre for the Blue Economy and Innovation (CBEI) is specialised on consulting for all matters arising from the idea of the Blue Economy.
The Centre was established in September 2018 at the Caribbean Maritime University (CMU) with the objective of providing decision-makers with new evidence-based information to improve policies for sustainable ocean economic activities.
The Centre examines the potential of the Blue Economy to drive sustained and inclusive economic growth, examines ways that ocean and coastal resources can support economic development, enhance healthy, sustainable oceans and well-managed coastlines, and advocates keeping the balance between growing the economy, protecting the environment, and advancing social well-being.
The Centre supports implementing the UN Sustainable Development Goal 14, which speaks to the conservation and sustainable use of oceans, seas, and marine resources for sustainable development.
The Centre will provide evidence through research and innovation to inform potential clients in the region about the possibilities of the Blue Economy for growth, job creation, and sustainable use of maritime resources. Using the full potential of the ocean will demand responsible, sustainable approaches to its economic development.
The Centre will raise awareness of the potential of the blue economy and mobilize public and private bodies to invest in research, skills, and infrastructure. It will stimulate innovation by building bridges between researchers and industry.
After an organizational reorganization of the CMU in 2022/2023, CBEI is no longer a university center but an independent institution that is and remains committed to the same goals mentioned above.
